Canadian truck driver accused of pot smuggling freed
A Canadian man who drove almost 2,300 pounds worth of marijuana over the border has been freed by federal authorities.
32-year-old Tasbir Singh claims that he did not know about the haul that was in the truck in which he was driving and that he believed he was only transporting coil rings.
Ellen Michaels, Singh’s defense attorney, says that criminals hacked into the computer system for Singh’s trucking company to create a counterfeit order for coil springs in order to instead have marijuana transported.
Singh was initially arrested on July 7th, but was later freed after the complaint was dismissed.
Prosecutors stated in court documents that additional time is needed in order to determine who was responsible for the marijuana smuggling incident.
