The inflation of the cannabis industry creates a high demand for educated professionals to facilitate the industry with projected worth of $75 billion dollars by the year 2023 according to the investment bank Cowen & Co. Medical cannabis largely accounts for treating the country-wide Opioid crisis that has induced mass heroin addictions. Amongst other treatments provided by the plant like pain management, appetite stimulation, enhancement in moods, and a decrease in insomnia rates while avoiding the dangers of alternative Western approaches that cause severe addictions, drug abuse, and even overdoses within our communities. Marijuana is ground-breaking in the medical industry, for economic growth and hope for future physical and mental wellness.

As the industry grows rapidly right along with the plants that create it, a surge in the demand for cannabis professionals opens new career opportunities. Accredited universities country-wide are now offering Bachelor degrees in cannabis. Students cannot just blaze their way through the program that includes some of the hardest courses required like organic chemistry, biostatistics, genetics, and gas and liquid chromatography.

Northern Michigan University is now offering a medicinal plant chemistry course with a focus on health applications of marijuana. CNBC states that out of college pay rates for cannabis degrees start at $70,000 dollars which is almost unheard of for recent graduate jobs.

So, how many of you are rethinking your current major, thinking about returning to school, or applying to pursue a degree in a cannabis related field? As we soar into the future cannabis will continue to grow into a larger, more prominent part of the world we now know.
