Making Waves: Uber Leaps Into the Cannabis Industry

by Christopher Wright aka Blue

Uber Canada is partnering with cannabis retailer Tokyo Smoke making it possible for consumers to pre-order cannabis products.

The service does not offer delivery. In the UberEats app, there is a new “cannabis” section under which Tokyo Smoke can be found. Users can now order and pay for their items through the app and have them ready at one of the 35 Tokyo Smoke locations in Ontario.

This marks the first time for Uber to ever engage in the cannabis industry.

Co-founded by Lorne and Alan Gertner in 2015, Tokyo Smoke first opened in Toronto’s West Queen West neighborhood. Canopy acquired Tokyo Smoke’s parent company, Hiku Brands, in 2018 for $250 million.
