Cannabis News: Marijuana in D.C. One Step Closer to Being Completely Legalized

by Craig Wasserman

As of October 20, 2021, the Senate Appropriations Committee unveiled their spending legislation that will allow the legalization of marijuana sales in Washington, D.C.

This established legislation goes in violation with Joe Biden’s budget request. The House has already signed off on eliminating the ban, as Democratic leaders plan to make their final plans by December 3rd.

This new bill intends to protect state provided medical cannabis laws from the interference of authorities.

The New York Department of Labor issued advice on this matter, claiming that employers are not permitted to drug test workers for marijuana use.

They also claimed that cannabis cannot be used to come to the judgement of impairment. D.C. officials stated today that the new bill is “a step in the right direction” and claimed that this new legislation will further protect the well-being of voters, especially those who have a criminal record.

More of this story will unfold in the coming winter season!
